If you experienced any problems with Counter Strike installation - this brief guide is for you.
You will pass few main steps of CS setup.
First you should
download counter strike. You can use either direct link or torrent. The difference is that using direct download you use single connection of your web browser to the server and it often has limited speed. BitTorrent is a P2P protocol which allows you to download the same file from multiple locations simultaneously. Usually these locations are the computers of other players who already downloaded the game. To use this possibility you should download and install a torrent client first. We recommend
uTorrent.
So, go to the download page and click
Download Counter-Strike 1.6 icon or Torrent icon. In the first case the installation package file will be saved on your disk. In the second - .torrent file will be saved and started by your torrent client. If no, you should start it manually. uTorrent will download all files for you.
After a full load, right-click on the torrent distribution and press "Open" or locate the installation executable in your downloads directory and double-click it.
Now you should follow the instructions and install the Counter-Strike.
To start CS you should use a shortcut on your Desktop or in Start Menu.
Note that installed CS is portable, so you can easily copy it to another PC or restore after system re-installation. The only point is how to start it. Probably, you should create a shortcut manually and place it on your desktop.
The most common executable command for CS 1.6 build 4554 and older should be
hl.exe -console -game cstrike
For newer 6153 you must use launcher (revLoader.exe or just launcher.exe / start.exe / cstrike.exe depending on your cs repack).
CS:Source v34 is usually started the same way as 4554, so try to use
hl.exe -console -game cstrike -steam
Newer versions of CS:Source (v78 or V84) require a launcher that could be found in the directory where you installed the game.
